A GENERAL OVERVIEW OF THE CHAKRA SYSTEM:

'Chakra' is an ancient symbol and means circle or wheel. If you understand the chakra energy system, you know that we have 7 wheels starting at the root chakra, which is represented by the color red. The first chakra is located at the sacrum. It is connected to the earth - the soul, the mother - and it is masculine.

Going up the body to the second chakra - it is located below the abdomen. It is sexuality and represented by the color orange. The second chakra is feminine.

The third chakra is located slightly below the chest. It is represented by the color yellow and considered the emotional center. The third chakra is masculine.

On up to fourth chakra, or heart chakra. It is represented by the color green, and is where love and connections come from. The fourth chakra is feminine.

The fifth chakra is the throat chakra. The throat chakra is represented by the color blue and is the creative center which controls the hands. Artists and musicians come from this chakra. The fifth chakra is masculine.

The sixth chakra is located between the eyes. It is considered the third eye, and its color is violet. It is where intuition and intrinsic knowing originate. The sixth chakra is feminine.

The seventh chakra is the crown chakra located at the top of the head. The seventh chakra is represented by white or gold. It is the divine chakra connecting with Spirit and the heavenly light. The seventh chakra is masculine.

Over the past several years, I have traveled with the Chopra Center for Well Being. Spending precious time away from my studio, I started painting chakra wheels on my lap. People began to buy right from my lap. This was the essence of the beginning of the chakra wheel. Each wheel is created to connect with that part of the body that the colors represent. So each wheel is used for meditation through the eyes simply by looking at it.
